Bricks Kids N Gears

Available Classes

We offer 4 classes for students 1st through 12th grade that are repeated each semester. There are no prerequisites for the classes, but each class has its own starting level of difficulty. Each class may be repeated 2-3 times without students repeating any builds. We provide all materials for students to use at class. Our Circuit Cube Build class is the only one that has items to take home at the end of the class.

Please read class descriptions and then head to the Registration tab to sign up! Please contact us if you have a student not in the recommended age group for the class. We want to make sure the class is right for their skill level. Students are typically ready for our Motorized Brick Builds class if they can build from an instruction booklet on their own.

Motorized Brick Builds
Students: 1st – 3rd Grade

In this hands-on class students will build machines, vehicles, and other structures out of Lego bricks! We will explore principles of engineering, architecture, physics, and more. Each session we will build something new and deconstruct at the end of the hour. Students can take the class multiple times without repeating the same build.

Circuit Cube Builds
Students: 2nd – 5th Grade

This course allows students to explore how circuits work using Circuit Cubes which provide a fun way to motorize and light up Lego creations. Students will explore how circuits work, create hand-cranked flashlights, engineer a self-propelled vehicle, and more. Repeat students will continue with more advanced builds and eventually use the bluetooth upgrade to remote control their builds. Each session we will build something new and deconstruct at the end of the hour. The cost of this class includes a Circuit Cube kit students get to take home. Students can take the class multiple times without repeating the same build.

Remote Control Builds
Students: 3rd – 8th Grade

This is a hands-on class where students build different vehicles and creatures out of Lego bricks and make them move using remote controls. Applying principles of engineering, physics and more, students will develop problem solving and critical thinking skills while having fun with these more technical builds. These are larger builds of 400 – 800 pieces and will take more than one session to complete most builds.

Build & Code
Students: 4th Grade and higher

Students will use either Lego’s Spike or EV3 coding programs to code various builds, increasing in difficulty. Students will incorporate motors and sensors into their builds, then program their build using specific software on laptop. Students might build a robotic hand, a barking dog, or even a shooting scorpion. This class can be repeated as many times as a student would like. Once they have built our core curriculum, they can explore and challenge themselves with the assistance of our instructors.
